Mahindra is one of the top automobile giants in India and is coveted for the robust and powerful SUV’s that it manufacturers. The company is credited with SUV’s like Scorpio, Bolero, Thar and the likes; however, it seems that this automobile giant was busy all along in devising a plan to revolutionize the ‘Sports Utility Vehicle Segment’ in India and was looking forward to taking the market by storm.

Say hi to the XUV 500; the crowing jewel for Mahindra and Mahindra motors. Not only has this car sent ripples through the entire market; but it has made a dent on the overall sales of its rivals. So what is it that makes this SUV stand out from all of the rest? Let’s find out…

    Overall Design
When it comes to design; the designers at Mahindra have left no stone unturned. Not only have they designed the vehicle in a way as to give it a commanding presence on the road; but they have also ensured the overall exterior of the vehicle turns heads once it hits the streets.

This cheetah inspired design features projector headlamps that spread out light while parking the vehicle and adjust accordingly while maneuvering tight corners; while the daylight LED lights not only make the car look cool but also add a level of safety for the people in the vehicle. The Vehicle features a monocoque design which has been utilized by Mahindra for the very first time; helping balance out the stiffness and the overall weight of the vehicle; thereby lowering body roll.

    Interiors
The Mahindra XUV 500 has been designed in a way; so as to offer the maximum comfort and safety to the people sitting inside the vehicle. The doors open wide; thereby making it easier for people to get in and out of the vehicle without any hassles; also, the flat floor integrated design ensure that passenger room is available in plenty in the vehicle. No wonder, that even tall people sitting in the first and second row of the vehicle will find enough room to stretch their legs.

The steering column is adjustable with integrated audio controls. The air conditioner in the vehicle is also powerful and cools the entire vehicle efficiently. Though there are a lot of individual elements in the console of the vehicle; Mahindra should have done away with the fake wood finish.

    Mileage and Power Output
The XUV 500 features a 2.2 litre mHawk engine; and features a 6 speed manual transmission gearbox. The vehicle makes an impressive jump from 120bhp to 140 bhp and offers a maximum torque of 32.64 KGM between 1600 to 2800 rpm. Overall, the XUV 500 scores well when it comes to mileage; as this SUV offers an impressive 10.2 kms per litre in the city and a mileage of 14.1 kms per litre while cruising on the highway—making it 1 of the most fuel efficient vehicles in its class.

    Verdict
The Mahindra XUV 500 is a great value for money, and for anyone looking forwards to buying an SUV; the XUV 500 is definitely a good buy; that is backed the years of trust and solid engineering that Mahindra and Mahindra motors is known for.
