Porsche 918 Spyder Beats McLaren P1 Around Laguna Seca

The Porsche 918 Spyder can lap the Nurburgring in 6 minutes and 57 seconds and while McLaren has not given an official time around the track we can confirm it is under 7 minutes. Many people think it is faster than the 918 around The Ring but around Laguna Seca it seems to be a different story. Motor Trend  got the 2 hypercars together at Laguna Seca and set a blistering lap of 1:29.89 in the Porsche which was fitted with standard Michelin Pilot Super Cup 2 tyres. This lap was achieved after one warm up lap and one charging lap. On the other hand, the McLaren P1 completed 8 laps in total before it could set its best time of 1:30.71 and it was wearing Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres (most aggressive available). It seems the German car won this battle properly because the P1’s tyres came heat-cycled and the 918 didn’t. This is a very interesting test and I am sure it will surprise a few but can you really go and say I will buy the 918 Spyder because it is a fraction of a second faster? Well no because firstly they are sold out and secondly it is pretty much negligible…
