Audi officials have confirmed the new R8 will eventually be offered with a turbocharged engine. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Technical Development Boss, said “It is inevitable that we will go to a turbocharged motor for it at some point. It would be in this model cycle, to give us a fuller range”. Quattro GmbH MD, Heinz Peter Hollerweger also confirmed that the turbocharged engine would replace the previous models 4.2-litre V8. They declined to go into specifics but previous reports and rumors suggest that it will either be a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder or a twin-turbo V6. Going to miss that awesome V8 sound but I guess we need to leave it up to the clever Germans.
