5 Excellent Reasons to Buy an Electric Vehicle

Buying a vehicle can be a thrilling experience. There’s nothing like that new car smell as you hit the road and get to know your new ride. Of course, there are many factors to consider, including your needs, budget, and more. It’s also a good idea to consider whether you want a gas or electric vehicle (EV).

Not too long ago, the answer was clear cut in favor of gas vehicles. But nowadays, there are many advantages to buying an EV. Perhaps that’s why close to 2 million such cars are registered in the United States, according to Pew Research Center. Here are some of the most significant benefits of going with an EV:

    #1 Savings

While the upfront cost of buying an EV can be higher than a car that runs on gas, the long-term fuel cost savings are plentiful. Instead of spending thousands of dollars a year, you spend nothing on gas with an EV. In five years, the average North American can save around 10,000 USD.

EVs also have an advantage over gas-powered vehicles in upkeep. A gas engine needs regular oil replacement and filter change, while an EV doesn’t. Also, several parts in a gas-powered engine are prone to breakage that you won’t find in an EV.

    #2 Government Incentives

Depending on your location, you may be surprised to learn that EVs aren’t much more costly than gas-powered vehicles. This is because many localities that are interested in investing in a sustainable future offer incentives that add up to significant savings for purchasers of EVs.

    #3 Ride Quality

There’s a common misconception amongst gas vehicle enthusiasts that electric vehicles are slower. On the contrary, the right electric vehicle can offer significantly more acceleration than its gas-powered counterpart. Moreover, many electric vehicles feature futuristic technology and outstanding drive quality.

The demand for EVs is so high that many icons of the industry are switching to electric. Take, for example, the Ford Mustang. The all-electric Mustang Mach-E is making waves across the industry for its modern design, sleek and muscular curves, cutting-edge technology, and traditional 0-60 thrills that earn it the iconic Mustang badge.

     #4 Increasing Charging Stations

While the number of gas stations outnumbers EV charging stations, public charging stations are catching up. Currently, there are over 40,000 EV charging stations in the United States, according to the Department of Energy. With the government making sustainability a priority, expect this number to go up.

    #5 The Environment

We saved the best reason for the end. The most critical reason to buy an EV is that they’re more eco-friendly. A gas-powered vehicle burns fossil fuels and releases carbon monoxide, nitrogen, hydrocarbons, and other hazardous chemicals.

Of course, EVs are not entirely emissions-free. Such vehicles with lithium-based batteries require more energy to manufacture than traditional cars. Additionally, they’re not environmentally sound in locations with coal-powered electrical grids that don’t produce clean energy. But study after study shows that EVs are significantly more eco-friendly over their lifespans.

These are five excellent reasons to buy an electric car. Not only are EVs the more sustainable option, but they’re high-tech and can be a blast to drive.

    • We waited a fair bit for the Tiguan R to arrive but that means it has been given enough thought and executed with the sort of German precision that makes us happy to have waited.

As fast SUVs go it’s a cracker, and with a price tag starting from R1,014,900 it is actually decent value in the segment.

It’s fun, aggressive when you want it to be and remarkably civilised when you don’t. Cars like this rarely make sense, but the Tiguan R is one case where that argument starts to change one's mind.

We cannot wait to drive the matching Golf next week!

    • If you’re expecting a faster, angrier and more focused version of the original 86, you’re going to be happy with this car.

Toyota finally gave the 86 more power. It’s not take-your-breath-away power, but again, it’s not made to win drag races. If you want more power, get a Supra.

Sure it is a bit more pricey this time around but it is a no-regrets kind of car that you will enjoy just as much today as 10 years from now.

Long live the manual transmission, especially when it’s packaged within something as fun as the Toyota GR86.
