The new entry-level McLaren has started testing and in some serious disguise. It looks like the 12C but this is in fact just the mule prototype (confirmed by McLaren spokesperson). It will feature what they call a carbon fibre MonoCell chassis and will have a de-tuned version of the 3.8-litre V8 that is in the 12C and the P1. Competing with the new R8, 911 Turbo and 911 GT2, it will have about 500hp which is considerably less than the current 12C’s 616hp. It will look like a mixture between the 12C and the P1 so I am expecting BIG things in the cosmetics department. We will have to be patient however as it is likely to debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
