Buying A Personalised Number Plate? Read This First!

Personalised number plates are attractive ways to customise your car. You can choose ones that have your initials in them, your name or convey a particular message. Each year, thousands of people buy private plates for their vehicles.

If you’re thinking of buying some for your car, you’ll have noticed that you’re spoilt for choice! In today’s post, I’d like to share some tips with you on how to choose the best plates for your standard or exotic car. Here is what you need to know:

    Budget

The first thing to consider is how much you are willing to spend on the personalised number plates for your car. You will have no doubt seen that private plates range from two to six-figure sums. The rarer or more unique ones tend to fetch the most money.

Having your initials on private number plates is something many of us would like to do. The only thing that’s stopping you, of course, is the cost. If money’s no object, you can probably skip this section of the guide. But, for the rest of us, we need to set a realistic ceiling price of how much we want to spend.

It’s important that you don’t end up in debt for your personalised number plates. Only look for ones that are within your means. Let me put it to you another way. If you lost the amount of cash you want to spend on some plates, would it hurt your finances? If the answer is no, you can afford to spend that amount of money on some private plates.

    Flexibility

If you must have a set of private number plates written in a specific way, you’ll be limiting yourself. When it comes to searching for your ideal plates, you should be a little flexible. Don’t be afraid to come up with different letter and number combinations.

Of course, there will be some formats you can’t have due to registration laws. But, you shouldn’t have a problem finding the one you want in most cases.

The Internet is your friend when it comes to seeking out ideas for private number plates. Many websites can help you search for and come up with different combinations. Try a few different ones out and make a list of possible choices.

Once you’ve done that, you can decide which one you think is the best and proceed to buy them!

    Don’t buy from untrusted sources

As with anything you buy in life, you need to be sure you opt for a legitimate seller. You should stick with either official or authorised resellers of personalised number plates. I don’t recommend dealing with individuals as you’ll get no guarantees for your money.

Also, if you buy from a person, it’s likely you might come across a scammer.

    Avoid offensive plates

Last, but not least, avoid private plates that are likely to offend people. First of all, you are unlikely to get approved for them. And, second, they will just be in poor taste.

By following the tips in this guide, you will soon choose the best private plates for your car. Good luck!
