This year’s Rally Legend came to a tragic end after one spectator was killed during a special stage in San Merino, Italy. The 57 year old, Henry Anselmino, was watching the rally when the #44 Renault Clio Maxi of Bonaso Enrico and Palazzi Alice went off the road at high speed, hit the bales protecting the run-off path before smashing into the spectators. Anselmino died on impact while a further eight people were injured. The Rally organizers immediately cancelled the special stage, which ultimately marked the end of Rally Legend 2016. First responders arrived on site and treated the wounded who were then transferred to the hospital using ambulances. The award ceremony was also cancelled as a sign of respect.
