Your Four Wheeled Pride And Joy: Important Things To Think About When Finding Your Perfect Car

A car is one of the most significant purchases that you’re likely to make. Few of us treat a car like an impulse buy, as nice that that would be. So when you do find yourself choosing a car, it’s important to figure out what you need. What does your perfect car need to have? How can you be sure it’s going to take care of you for years to come? Luckily with a bit of research and planning, you can make that choice a lot easier. It’s just important to ask the right questions. Here are a few things that you can do to help you choose the perfect car.

    Budget

Step 1 in choosing a car will always be figuring out exactly what you can afford. Everyone’s budget is different. There are those who wouldn’t baulk at six figure sums while many of us might be considering slightly more modest budgets. Whatever your budget is, it’s important to know exactly what you can afford. That’s not just limited to the price of purchase but the costs of running and ensuring the vehicle itself. Not only that but when you know your budget, the most important thing is to stick to it. Don’t let smooth a smooth talking salesman convince you that stretching beyond it wouldn’t be that much of a problem. No matter how in love with a car you are, if you can’t afford to buy or to run it, it’s not worth it.

    Used, new or nearly new

There’s a lot of temptation in the inviting shine of a brand new car. But that might not always be the best option for you. New cars undoubtedly come with a lot of benefits. New cars come with a warranty which can offer a lot of peace of mind. Not to mention that it’s much less likely to suffer a fault of some kind. But when looking at what you can afford then used might be the way to go. Even after a single year, the price of a car can drop significantly. A year old car will save you lots of money but won’t yet have started to suffer from the typical problems that can affect a lot of used cars.

    The bells and whistles

Cars today come with so many features that it can be difficult to figure out which one’s are important and which are just luxuries. As always, it comes down to what you need from your car. If you find yourself struggling to park then consider a car with rear sensors to help you avoid obstacles. For music lovers, it’s worth going for a car with a stereo that allows you to connect via USB or Bluetooth so that your tunes are always at your fingertips. However, if you’re not particularly interested in any of the most advanced features. Then you might be happy with something older or more simple.

Whatever you go for then it’s important to focus on exactly what you need. Try not to let your heart take over and focus on making smart decisions to ensure you find the perfect car for you.

    • Looks like the new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE was spotted testing in South Africa 🇿🇦

That start-up sounds pretty damn promising!

This thing packs a whopping 791 hp (590 kW) and 1,430 Nm of torque.

    • We waited a fair bit for the Tiguan R to arrive but that means it has been given enough thought and executed with the sort of German precision that makes us happy to have waited.

As fast SUVs go it’s a cracker, and with a price tag starting from R1,014,900 it is actually decent value in the segment.

It’s fun, aggressive when you want it to be and remarkably civilised when you don’t. Cars like this rarely make sense, but the Tiguan R is one case where that argument starts to change one's mind.

We cannot wait to drive the matching Golf next week!

Zandvoort Blue would not be our choice but the looks have certainly grown on us. What about all of you?

    • If you’re expecting a faster, angrier and more focused version of the original 86, you’re going to be happy with this car.

Toyota finally gave the 86 more power. It’s not take-your-breath-away power, but again, it’s not made to win drag races. If you want more power, get a Supra.

Sure it is a bit more pricey this time around but it is a no-regrets kind of car that you will enjoy just as much today as 10 years from now.

Long live the manual transmission, especially when it’s packaged within something as fun as the Toyota GR86.
