What You Need To Look For When Buying A Used Jeep in Canada

Buying a used car is a great way to save money on depreciation – and get your dream vehicle for less. This is especially true of Jeep cars. SUVs and utility vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler are expensive – and buying them brand-new is not possible for most Canadians.

But if you’re getting a used Jeep in Canada, there are some things you should be on the lookout for. Because Jeeps are often taken off-road and are used to tow heavy loads, it can be hard to know what to look for to make sure you’re getting a good deal on a great car.

We’re here with a quick guide on what to look for if you are interested in used cars and jeeps for sale in Canada. Let’s get started!

    1. Comprehensive Service And Maintenance Records

This is especially important if you are thinking about buying a Wrangler, or another Jeep that is often used in off-roading. Off-roading does take its toll on a vehicle’s components – but with proper maintenance, this damage can be minimized.

If you are interested in an off-roading Jeep, you will want to make sure that the used vehicle has comprehensive service and maintenance records – ideally, the “heavy use” service schedule from the owner’s manual should be followed.

And even if you’re interested in a less purpose-built vehicle like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, you should still make sure that the car has had regular oil changes, tire rotations, balancings, and other regular services performed.

    1. A Rust-Free Body And Chassis

A small amount of rust is not that surprising – especially on an off-roading vehicle. Rocks, snow, and other elements can take their toll on the car, and cause some damage.

But, for the most part, the chassis and the body of the vehicle should be rust-free. If you notice a significant amount of rust or corrosion – especially on the underside components of the Jeep – that’s a sign that it’s not been taken care of properly, and that it may be a poor overall investment.

    1. The Right Jeep Model For Your Needs

Not all Jeeps are built alike. The Jeep Wrangler, for example, has a sporty design that’s purpose-built for off-roading, with a high ride, great suspension, and available plastic seats and other features that make it perfect for getting off the road – and getting muddy!

But other Jeeps, like the Grand Cherokee, are better for daily driving, with a more comfortable ride, better seats, and better gas mileage. Other Jeep models like the Patriot are somewhere in-between – they can handle both off-roading and a daily commute to the office.

Take the time to browse the used Jeeps that are around your area, and think about what you’re going to be using your Jeep for in Canada. Then, you’ll be able to pick out the model that’s right for your particular needs.

    1. A Smooth, Comfortable Ride

The suspension is often what takes the most abuse when off-roading. If you test-drive a Jeep and it bounces around or otherwise fails to deliver a comfortable ride, it may have suspension issues – and these can be costly to repair.

    1. No Suspicious Odors Or Noises

During the test drive, your nose and your ears are your best friends. Put the car through its paces, and be on the lookout for any strange sounds like:

    • Rattling
    • Grinding
    • Vibrations
    • Squealing
    • Knocking

You should also use your nose to smell for odors such as exhaust fumes, acrid smoke, ozone, sulfur (rotten eggs), burning rubber, or gasoline.

These can all be indicators of a car that’s in poor condition, so keep an ear (and a nose) out for these problems.

    • Aston Martin calls it the 'fastest luxury SUV in the world' and 'the supercar of SUVs' but is the DBX707 worth all this hype?

It is the fastest and most powerful SUV you can currently buy (order) in SA so there is that but the reality today is that the 707 will have to dice with the Urus, the Bentayga Speed, and the Cayenne Turbo GT for hearts, minds, and wallets.

Aston estimates 65% of DBX sales going forward will be this 697 hp (520 kW) and 900Nm variant and after driving it, this might be an underestimate. If the regular DBX is in your price range, then you can almost certainly afford a DBX707.

It can hit 100 km/h in 3.3s and go to a ridiculous 310 km/h so, of course, it is properly quick but it is just as impressive when the roads get twistier and it instils an enormous amount of confidence in the driver.

If you fancy snapping up this contender for the Super SUV king title, you are going to need at least R5m making it significantly more expensive than the Lambo and Porsche counterparts but you will be driving something a lot more rare which could be the reason you hand your money to Aston Martin.

What do you all think?
