The Maserati Brand Is Set To Be Completely Transformed

Maserati is not a name or manufacturer that needs to be introduced.  It is one of Italy’s most well known automotive manufacturers with more than a century’s worth of road car as well as motor racing heritage. Recently, however, the brand has been on the back foot in terms of launching new cars and indeed replacing models. The GranTurismo, as an example, was released back in 2007 and dynamically it simply hasn’t been able to deliver what its German rivals can offer. Fortunately, it looks like Maserati is about to get a new lease of life.

The owners of Maserati, the Fiat Chrysler Group, admit that the Maserati brand hasn’t been where it needs to be in the last few years. “With hindsight, when we put Maserati and Alfa together, it did two things. Firstly, it reduced the focus on Maserati the brand. Secondly, Maserati was treated for a period of time almost as if it were a mass market brand, which it isn’t and shouldn’t be treated that way,” said FCA CEO Mike Manley.

Maserati is preparing for a complete transformation in its production of cars. It will all be kicked off with, presumably, what was named the ‘Alfieri’ concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The car will be produced in the heart of motor valley in Italy – Modena. CEO of Maserati, Harald Wester, says that the factory will, “utilize special capabilities and a very particular fabrication cycle: a wholesome synergy of craftsmanship and innovation, unscrupulous attention to detail and the applications of the highest quality standards, resulting in the manufacturing of unique, exclusive products which represent the very best of the ‘Made in Italy’ brand worldwide.”

The upgrades to the Maserati production lines are scheduled to take place in the spring of this year. Once those have been completed, production of Maserati’s new sportscar will most likely start sometime in 2020. Maserati will also be introducing various electrically assisted models in the future in what will be called their ‘Blue Line’. The Italian manufacturer will also be replacing its current model line-up, namely the Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte, by 2022.

It will be absolutely fantastic to see Maserati back on the map and to see them being able to match and better what is currently available on the market. We can only wait in anticipation.

    • The first customer Maserati MC20 has landed in SA finished in Bianco Audace. We are expecting 9 units to arrive this year.

The base comes in at R6,714,000 and that gets you a twin-turbo 3-litre V6 delivering 620 hp (463 kW) and 730 Nm of torque.

It is a very pretty thing. What do you all think?

    • The latest BMW X4 M Competition is undeniably quick. It packs a rip-snorting engine delivering bonkers acceleration and some seriously impressive handling agile enough to trick you into thinking it's a sports car.

This LCI model boasts a sweet technical update, with more performance and better tech on offer, plus bespoke M features for this halo model.

The ride however is a tad hard-edged and the X3 M Competition alternative does offer more practicality. If you prefer coupe-like styling this is the one for you even if Sao Paulo Yellow may not be your first choice.
