For many car owners, the vehicle is simply a means to an end. It is the machine that gets you from point A to point B and it is little more than that. It is a more comfortable way to get around than a train or a taxi. To these people, the vehicle has utility value but nothing else. It is not viewed as an asset and it is not treated as such. It is true that for the most part, vehicles depreciate in value over time, but that is a process that can be slowed if the car is looked after properly. A car that has been well maintained and cared for should last for a very long time. The sad reality is that most people don’t really know what they need to do to ensure that their car stays as good as new. They know to take it for service occasionally, but aside from that, they are fairly clueless. If this is you, then here are a few things you should be doing to your car on a regular basis.

    Body beautiful

The more you use your car the more likely it is to get scratched and bumped. We are not talking about major accidents, but rather those niggling incidents like when the car parked next to you opens its door into yours. The little bumps and scrapes that are all too often not covered by insurance and which seem too insignificant to get fixed. But these are things that you absolutely need to have sorted or they quickly mount up and before you know it you are driving a jalopy. A Google search for something like ‘mechanic richmond’ should provide the names of locally-based panel beaters and body-shops, while you can also look at finding insurance companies who provide cover for these types of scrapes and bumps.

    Shocks and wheels

There is such a critical element of the motor car experience and sadly it is one of the most overlooked. Wheel balancing and alignment are two very important things that need to be done regularly. They might not appear to make a big difference, but they do. The same applies to the shock absorbers and springs which gradually stop working like they should and impact the experience of the ride but also on the chassis and bodywork of the car. All these elements deteriorate slowly – so slowly that it is impossible to notice on a day-to-day basis. It is precise because of this that they tend not to get looked at as often as they should. But make a plan to get these important elements of your car checked on a regular basis.

    The upholstery is important

When it comes to your car that the place where you will spend the most time is inside it. So, you need to make sure that the interior is well looked after and comfortable. In this regard the upholstery is critical. Use covers and protective sprays to ensure that the wear and tear that is inevitable, is slowed down. Don’t smoke in the car for a start. Vacuum regularly. Wash the seat covers often. It is simple maintenance stuff, but it makes the world of difference.
