So you have planned a holiday to the UK, and you want to see as much of the country as you can. Renting a car and transporting yourself around the city and countryside is the best way to really see everything. While staying in the city and relying on public transportation can provide an enjoyable experience, having the freedom of a car provides much more opportunity to explore. Renting a car can be overwhelming, especially if the UK is not your native home, or if you are a city slicker who has never ventured into the realm of car rentals. For these unsure individuals, we provide the following tips on how to make car rental in the UK as easy as possible.

There is an overwhelming range of car rental agencies at London’s airports, but you can ease the decision and compare DriveNow car rentals at Heathrow airport to determine the best option for you. By using DriveNow’s online booking form to compare a variety of car rental agencies and prices, you don’t have to worry pre-flight about trying to reserve a car when you arrive. Plus with no cancellation fees, this is a risk free car rental experience!

The next steps, once you have selected which car rental agency to go with, are to secure the style of vehicle needed for planned excursions and to make sure you purchase insurance. With the rainy and cool weather that the UK is known for, you probably aren’t going to want to have a convertible car. Having a working heater would suit you far better, and if you could make a point to keep a spare umbrella in the trunk, you will be very well prepared for all kinds of UK weather. Always be prepared, as the saying goes!

Choosing a relatively small vehicle would suit you best for your driving excursions. Given the smaller streets and tighter parking spaces that most cities in the UK offer, renting a car on the small side will give you more freedom to travel and park easily. It may even be difficult to find an SUV to rent in the UK as they are not very common.

Finally, you must make sure you get car insurance once you have selected your rental car. You would do well to purchase insurance, not only for your own protection and for the good of the car itself, but also for your peace of mind. The price is well worth it considering the risks that come with driving in a new country. Especially for those who are not used to driving on the left side of the road, or those who are not used to driving much; having the protection of insurance is a comfort.

Renting a car in the UK can make for a truly lovely holiday away, and the process does not have to be stressful. Keep in mind these tips on selection, vehicle size, and insurance options, and you will be well on your way to an eye opening visit!

    • Aston Martin calls it the 'fastest luxury SUV in the world' and 'the supercar of SUVs' but is the DBX707 worth all this hype?

It is the fastest and most powerful SUV you can currently buy (order) in SA so there is that but the reality today is that the 707 will have to dice with the Urus, the Bentayga Speed, and the Cayenne Turbo GT for hearts, minds, and wallets.

Aston estimates 65% of DBX sales going forward will be this 697 hp (520 kW) and 900Nm variant and after driving it, this might be an underestimate. If the regular DBX is in your price range, then you can almost certainly afford a DBX707.

It can hit 100 km/h in 3.3s and go to a ridiculous 310 km/h so, of course, it is properly quick but it is just as impressive when the roads get twistier and it instils an enormous amount of confidence in the driver.

If you fancy snapping up this contender for the Super SUV king title, you are going to need at least R5m making it significantly more expensive than the Lambo and Porsche counterparts but you will be driving something a lot more rare which could be the reason you hand your money to Aston Martin.

What do you all think?
