Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), reveal that nearly 2.7 million new cars were registered in 2016 in the UK, beating record-high sales of 2015 by 2.3%. But which cars are the most popular among Brits?

Top 10 best-selling automobiles in the UK:

    1. Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta has been Britain’s favourite car for decades. It has dominated the list of best-selling cars more than any other model. 120,525 Ford Fiestas were registered in 2016.

    2. Vauxhall Corsa
In 2016, more than 77,000 Vauxhall Corsas were registered in the UK. Everyone in Britain loves the Corsa, regardless of age, profession, or budget.

    3. Ford Focus
The Ford Focus has always sold well in Britain since it was launched in 1998. In 2016, the number of registered Ford Focuses was 70,545.

    4. Volkswagen Golf

    5. Nissan Qashqai
The Nissan Qashqai is the only crossover in the top 10. The number of registered Nissan Qashqais in 2016 was almost 62,700.

    6. Vauxhall Astra
The Nissan Qashqai is followed by the Vauxhall Astra, with 60,719 registrations. The Astra is one of the most popular hatches in the UK.

    7. Volkswagen Polo
The Volkswagen Polo takes the third place in the supermini sales list, behind the Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Fiesta. 54,448 VW Polos were registered in 2016.

    8. Mini
The VW Polo is followed by the Mini, with 48,328 registrations. The MINI hatch is one of the most popular small cars in the UK.

    9. Mercedes-Benz C-Class
You might think that it’s unusual for a premium car to appear in the top 10. However, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class comes ninth on the list, with 44,184 registrations in 2016.

    10. Audi A3
The Audi A3 ends the best selling cars top 10 in 2016. Totally 43,803 Audi A3s were registered in the UK.

    Security advice:
According to the statistics, we can conclude, that over time, more and more people in Britain are purchasing new cars, thus increasing the number of problems related to automobiles. AZ Locksmith technicians recommend you to change, repair or program your regular or remote keys in case of a damaged or a lost key.
