We know that nobody, absolutely nobody, likes getting speeding tickets. It’s never fun, and it’s just well-earned money out of your pocket that you could use for other things. Would you like the police officer who pulls you over next time to decide against giving you a ticket? If so, read this article to increase the chances that he or she just might! We hope that you find it to be quite interesting and informative!

If their lights flash, use your turn signal

If you are about to be pulled over, start off on the correct foot by communicating with the cop, especially if you’re somewhere where it is too dangerous to stop right away. Trust us, this is what you need to do!

If the siren goes on, pull over NOW

Don’t look for a better place to pull over. If the cop hits the siren, they consider it safe enough to stop immediately, right here.

    Kindness counts

Timing is essential here, say something nice before the cop walks back to his or her car to call in your information.  Once they write the ticket, you can no longer try to get out of it!

    Small talk is alright

Rambling does not look good, but answering with a one-word response to every question makes you look suspicious. Instead, have a quick conversation with the cop.
    Digging for requested documents

If you know your insurance and registration documents are hidden away, wait with your hands on your steering wheel until the cop has arrived at your window, and then ask to look for it. This is what this Springfield, PA Chrysler dealership’s Sales Manager says to do.

For minor speeding (usually less than twenty miles per hour over), a cop will use their discretion as to whether or not to give you a ticket. To sway the odds in your favor, apply all these tips to your situation when it occurs; they will help you out.

If you pass a traffic cop, wave

If you are going five to ten over and suddenly see an officer, smile and wave to acknowledge that you are paying attention and are going slower. Otherwise, keep a low profile and don’t draw any more attention to yourself, like suddenly speeding up more or anything like that.

    Don’t speed again

There are times of the year, like around holidays, when cops may sit around with the purpose of distributing tickets. That unofficial buffer zone range of five to ten miles per hour still applies, but don’t exceed that. And how about avoiding speeding at all? The speed limit sign is there for a reason—for the safety of all drivers. And if other drivers honk at you for not going faster then keep in mind that is their problem, not yours; do not speed up for them!

We hope you’ve enjoyed this article on how to avoid one of these occasional, unwanted slips of paper that tell you that you owe even more money to some town or city government.
