2012 saw the introduction of the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ and although their future was uncertain at one point due to low sales, both companies have committed to the development of a replacement.
The report continues to note that a new performance model smaller than the current WRX is also in the works, and will be co-produced by Toyota.
Exact specifications on the second-generation 86 and BRZ are yet to be announced, but Toyota has confirmed that both cars will be rear-wheel-drive.
As with all STI models, it’ll be equipped exclusively with a six-speed manual and all-wheel drive.
