It seems the BMW 8-Series name will be making a comeback around 2020 to provide greater competition to the S-Class Coupe. According to Autocar, insiders at BMW’s R&D centre in Munich suggest that two differing layouts for the 8 Series have already been put before BMW chairman Harald Krueger, who is personally driving plans to extend the BMW line-up to include additional luxury models.

The first model adopts a four-door layout and it is described as being “similar in concept to the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe but bigger”. The alternative model will be a more classic two-door coupe paired with a possible Cabriolet version. The decision as to which one they will pursue will be showcased in 2018 in concept form.
