BMW Say Possibly No More Manuals And Nothing Over 600 HP For M Models

BMW M Boss, Frank Van Meel, recently told Autocar that 600 horsepower would be the limit for the next-gen M5. “We’re at the limit. If you go on adding more horsepower and torque, it’d probably be over the limits”. He also went on to add fuel to the fire regarding the manual boxes being eliminated from future M models but he also left the door slightly open with the following statement. “From a technical standpoint, the future doesn’t look bright for manual gearboxes. The DCT and auto ‘boxes are faster and they have better fuel consumption. It’s difficult to say we’ll stick to the manual, but we still have a big fan community for manuals and we are not going to take away something the customer wants to have”. What do you think about this? Personally if Audi and Merc go bigger with their super-sedans, BMW will have to chase and that means going well over 600 horsepower in the future.
