When the Ford Motor Company introduced the Boss 429 Mustang to American drivers in 1969. The automaker set a new standard of muscle car performance. The 429 was designed specifically for racing. Ford’s intention was to leave Chrysler behind in NASCAR competitions, and that is exactly what the Boss achieved. These days, the 1969 Boss 429 is the one of the most sought-after vehicles around the world. Here are five interesting facts about this muscle car:

    A Rare American Classic

Of the 1,358 Boss 429 Mustangs released by Ford between 1969 and 1970, only 857 remain. And this is one of the reasons why collectors are always on the lookout for the special occasion. When one of these American beauties will become available.

    Formidable Horsepower

Even though the 429 lacks a modern Ford Mustang computer, this is a car that has been known to produce up to 600 horsepower under the right tuning conditions. In terms of torque, the fire-breathing 385 V8 engine is capable of exceeding 450 lb-feet. What is truly amazing is that the 429 is capable of holding 9,000 rpm for extended periods without having to worry about engine failure. A Boss 429 can be tuned to reach a top speed of 175 mph. But you would not want to take your chances and push a prized collector’s vehicle to such levels.

    Very High Value

When a Boss 429 makes a rare appearance at an auto show or at an auction, it not only turns heads. But it will also rouse the attention of collectors who are ready to submit their bids for the chance to own this unique piece of American car history. In recent years, a sale of a Boss 429 was recorded for the amount of $550K. Which was paid by a lucky collector in California. That particular Mustang has traveled less than 1,000 miles in nearly five decades.

    Plenty of Parts Available

Many Ford parts manufactured from 1964 to 1978 are still being produced for the benefit of collectors. If you need a gauge cluster to upgrade your Boss 429, you will be able to find it as easy as it would be to find a new Ford Mustang computer. A dashboard for a Mach I or Shelby Mustang from that era would likely fit your 429.

    Don’t Count On A/C

If you live in Florida, you are more likely to see the Boss 429 and other classic Mustangs. This is because the Sunshine State is home to many enthusiasts and collectors. More than likely, Boss 429 owners who keep their cars on the road will keep their windows rolled down in the summer. Since the 429 cubic inches of the 385 V8 engine take up a lot of room and do not leave any space for air conditioning. The 429 is a very wide car; it measures 72 inches from side to side, and it needs as much space as possible to house the powerful 7.030 liter engine.
