In the world of motoring, there are certain brands that command the respect of even the layperson. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati: these are names synonymous with luxury. The vehicles attached to them tend to be enormously valuable. If your business is based around the purchase and sale of these vehicles, then you’re exposed to a particularly acute kind of risk.

Fortunately, there are several ways of offsetting this risk. Let’s examine a few of them.

    Motor Trade Insurance

Without the right insurance, any dealership is taking a big chance. Just as motorists in the UK are legally obliged to take out insurance, so too are dealerships in this country obliged to do likewise. Ideally, your motor trade insurance should be from a reputable insurer, with a track record of looking after vehicles of the sort you’re selling.

    Cover the vehicle

We should also be concerned about cover in a more literal, physical sense. If your luxury cars are stored indoors, then they’ll be protected from the weather – whether it’s sunshine or rain. Covering your cars in dust cover will protect them against dust, rain, and general wear. Then, when you want to move a given vehicle to the showroom, you can be sure that they’ll look fantastic.

    Get Physical Security in Place

For obvious reasons, luxury car dealerships are a tempting target for criminals. You can deter would-be thieves, and protect your staff, by putting in place a few simple security measures. Alarms, security cameras, and robust locking systems will all play a role in securing the premises. With the help of electronic access control, you might also eliminate the problems that come with physical keys – which can be copied or stolen.

    Take Housekeeping Seriously

Your cars are going to be more difficult to sell if they’re covered in a thin layer of dust and grime. Consequently, it’s essential that they’re regularly treated to a full valet cleaning, which includes the interior and exterior of the vehicle. Set up a schedule for doing this, as it could make or break a given sale.

When your customers buy from you, they’re also buying into your business – as it’s through your business that all post-sale care and complaints will be routed. Make sure, therefore, that your premises and staff are just as presentable as the vehicles themselves.

    Hire a Lawyer

When it comes to luxury cars, the stakes can be high. If you run into a legal dispute over a given vehicle, whether it’s a manufacturing defect or a test drive gone awry, then you’ll want specialised legal expertise on your side. Ideally, you should have the right people in place before the time comes to call on them.
