So it turns out that Mercedes-AMG are not only going to build a hypercar but it is currently entering the final stages of its design before development begins. According to Evo, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team confirmed the F1-powered hypercar which is expected to be revealed as soon as next year. Next year is AMG’s 50th anniversary so it makes a lot of sense. The source of the information confirmed that the hypercar would be powered by the 1.6-litre V6 turbo engine fitted to the current W07 F1 racer, which is driven by Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. The powertrain will also feature an energy-recovery system capable of taking its total output beyond 1000bhp. It is not known yet if the engine will be enlarged to 2.0-litre’s but it sure would increase reliability and driveability. We can also expect a second turbocharger to be included in the mix. How will it look? Well something along the lines of the F1 car crossed with a modern-day LMP1 car but we can be certain that most of the chassis will be carbon fibre.

Mercedes is yet to disclose more prosaic details about the project such as price and production volumes, but expect numbers to be limited to around 50 (a number that fits with AMG’s anniversary next year) and the price to be in the region of €4million.
