Ferrari Trying to Sue a Charity For Using ‘Purosangue’ Name

Ferrari has just been named the most powerful brand in the world according to the “Brand Finance Global 500 2019” report but things could take a turn for the prancing horse brand as they are going after a non-profit charity organization over the use of the Purosangue name.

It has been attached to their first-ever SUV and means “thoroughbred” or “pure blood” and The Purosangue Foundation chose the name as a way of reflecting their advocacy against doping in sports.

Not only is it known for its anti-doping work, but the foundation has also set up training camps for runners in Kenya, and funds health check-ups for the elderly. They are claiming that the word was registered as a trademark for clothing and other products back in 2013 and although they have tried to reach out to Ferrari, no agreement could be reached, so they blocked Ferrari’s registration to the trademark in Europe.

Ferrari is building the case on the idea that the foundation has not made sufficient use of the Pursoangue name to warrant exclusivity, citing the lack of usage in the past five years.

“I am not going to be scared off, even knowing that we are up against one of the most important brands in the world,” says Max Monteforte, founder of Purosangue Foundation. The case will be heard by a court in Bologna on March 5.

    • Aston Martin calls it the 'fastest luxury SUV in the world' and 'the supercar of SUVs' but is the DBX707 worth all this hype?

It is the fastest and most powerful SUV you can currently buy (order) in SA so there is that but the reality today is that the 707 will have to dice with the Urus, the Bentayga Speed, and the Cayenne Turbo GT for hearts, minds, and wallets.

Aston estimates 65% of DBX sales going forward will be this 697 hp (520 kW) and 900Nm variant and after driving it, this might be an underestimate. If the regular DBX is in your price range, then you can almost certainly afford a DBX707.

It can hit 100 km/h in 3.3s and go to a ridiculous 310 km/h so, of course, it is properly quick but it is just as impressive when the roads get twistier and it instils an enormous amount of confidence in the driver.

If you fancy snapping up this contender for the Super SUV king title, you are going to need at least R5m making it significantly more expensive than the Lambo and Porsche counterparts but you will be driving something a lot more rare which could be the reason you hand your money to Aston Martin.

What do you all think?

    • The new BMW M240i xDrive barely puts a foot wrong. The price is right, it's crushingly quick, more than practical enough to daily and if you only look at the front, it is very easy on the eye 😉

It pulls properly hard, doesn’t feel turbocharged in its response, and delivers thrills when you want them. The extra confidence and pace afforded by the sweet pairing of the straight-six petrol engine and the rear-biased xDrive AWD system make the M240i an enticing proposition all of its own.

If you gave any BMW fan a wish list and asked them to build the perfect car given the company's current resources, it probably wouldn't be too far off this one.
