People handle stress differently. Some can cope very well with unexpected and stressful situations while others are completely paralyzed and have no idea what to do. An accident can be considered a situation in which individuals must make decisions despite the stress and trauma of it all. Here are some helpful tips:

    • Take a deep breath and stay calm. Panic will not take back the time and prevent the accident from happening. What’s done is done, you have to see what you can do from now on.
    • Use the cones or warning triangles in your trunk to alert the traffic about the accident. As you do that, you will calm down and your attention will be distracted from the accident itself. Also, turn on your car’s hazard lights.
    • A serious accident requires emergency medical services and police, you will know when the accident is serious enough for such procedures. If that is the case, call the police and ambulance immediately before doing anything else. You may also need to make a Serious Injury Claim through a law firm further down the line.
    • Check for injuries. As the adrenaline pumps in, people tend to say that there is nothing wrong with them but they faint as soon as they get up. That is just an example. Make sure that you check injuries and call the ambulance if you are unsure.
    • If you have been in a minor accident, take photos of the accident and then move the car to a safe place. You must avoid any supplementary damage to other cars or your car and that is why you need to place the car on the side of the road to avoid any other unfortunate events.
    • You should not leave the scene of the accident before the police arrive. Also you should inform your insurance company about the accident, taking all contact info from anyone involved in the accident.
