The Mercedes-AMG A35 4MATIC Is Official And It Packs 301 HP (225 kW)

After many teasers and even a full leak last night, the entry-level AMG model known as the A35 4MATIC has officially been revealed in a bright yellow.

It is set to take on the likes of the Audi S3 and Volkswagen Golf R when it lands at South African dealerships in the third quarter of next year and this is thanks to it’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol making 301 hp (225 kW) of power and 400 Nm of torque.

It is connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a performance-oriented all-wheel drive system which allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.7 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Stopping power comes from 350mm front and 330mm rear brake discs, with silver four-piston front and single-piston rear calipers respectively. The discs are internally ventilated and perforated, too.

Since it is a proper Mercedes-AMG model, there have been upgrades other than engine with the A35 receiving additional braces and an aluminium plate to increase torsional stiffness up front.

Elsewhere, engineers installed an AMG Ride Control suspension which uses lightweight aluminium components, an AMG-specific front steering knuckle and a handful of goodies lifted from the A45. Customers will also have the option of ordering an Adaptive Damping System with three different modes. Other performance changes include a sports steering system, an AMG exhaust and an assortment of special settings including a new “Slippery” mode for the AMG Dynamic Select System.

As you would expect, the A35 has plenty in common with the regular A-Class AMG line but this hot version sports a unique grille, flics and a front splitter. The car has also been equipped with a sportier rear bumper and a large spoiler. Other special touches include a new diffuser and 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

Inside you will be greeted with a flat-bottomed steering wheel, microfiber accents and red contrast stitching. There will also be an assortment of AMG-specific settings and options for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system.
